Help Local Kids This Tax-Free Weekend by Donating to City School Supply Drives
As residents head out to do their tax-free shopping this weekend, Mayor Tim Keller and the City of Albuquerque are asking them to consider picking up a few extra items to donate to kids in need.
For most students, school starts August 12, and the City of Albuquerque is collecting school supplies through supply drives at City Hall, 311, Albuquerque Police Department’s main station and substations in each area command, both multigenerational centers, and community centers across the city.
With New Mexico’s tax-free weekend August 2-4, the City is encouraging residents to consider purchasing school supplies to donate to one of the supply drives this year.
“One Albuquerque is about the community coming together in support of one another. That’s especially true for our young people, who should have the chance to focus on being engaged and successful in the classroom.” Mayor Tim Keller said. “Many families struggle with the expense of back-to-school shopping, and even a few basic school supplies can go a long way.”

Cruzin’ Into the School Year
This is a family event held at the Alamosa Community Center, where the City will be offering FREE haircuts, backpacks filled with school supplies, snacks, music, games, prizes, show cars, books, performances, and plenty of informational tables for families. Everything is available on a first-come, first-served basis, so get out to the event early! The event will be held on Sunday, August 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
