City Prepares for 4th of July Celebrations

Fireworks and spectators return to Balloon Fiesta Park, plus launch sites across the City.

The City of Albuquerque is gearing up for the upcoming 4th of July holiday. The City’s annual Freedom 4th event at Balloon Fiesta Park is back and in person once again. Albuquerque Fire Rescue and 311 are preparing to respond to reports of illegal fireworks and emergencies that occur.

With the many wildfires that have already occurred around the state this fire season, residents are reminded to be responsible only use legal fireworks. Patrols will be responding to reports of illegal fireworks. Fireworks labels that say “warning” are illegal in the City of Albuquerque. Those that say “caution” are legal.

“July 4th is one of the busiest days for our members every year. The safety of our community is our priority and we ask the residents of Albuquerque to help us by being careful and only using legal fireworks,” said Fire Marshal Kris Romero. “Our team will be patrolling the entire city and our open spaces so that we can respond quickly to emergencies that occur.”

Residents can report illegal fireworks to 311. Folks with digital access are encouraged to report illegal fireworks online at cabq.gov/fireworks or on the ABQ311 app. In 2021, there were 5,527 total reports of illegal fireworks in the city. Community Contact agents will be available during the following extended hours over the holiday weekend:
· Friday, July 1 from 6 am to Midnight
· Saturday, July 2 from 6 am to Midnight
· Sunday, July 3 from 9 am to Midnight
· Monday, July 4 from 3 pm to Midnight

“It’s wonderful to have events like Freedom 4th back to provide a fun and safe way for the whole family to celebrate the Fourth of July,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “We are so grateful for the opportunity to celebrate together with friends and family, and we hope that folks across the city do so safely.”

Freedom 4th is a free event for all ages happening at Balloon Fiesta Park on Monday, July 4 from 3:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Families can enjoy food from local vendors, family-friendly activities, live music including national headliner, Shenandoah, and a fireworks show. Find more information for the Freedom 4th event.
