City and IAFF Sign Historic Collective Bargaining Agreement
For the first time in recent city history, all labor unions have multi-year collective bargaining agreements with the City of Albuquerque. The seven unions represent front line workers who keep the City running, as well as first responders who put their lives on the line every day for our families. The City values its union workforce and recognizes how important union labor is to keep essential services running for our community.
“Union labor keeps our city moving forward day in and day out, and from the beginning, I’ve worked hard to support all they do to lift up our city,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “This is the culmination of hard work by our city’s unions and my staff, and builds on our productive relationship that ensures recruiting, retention, productivity, and pride in all that we do in Albuquerque.”
The finalized collective bargaining agreement with IAFF Local 244 secures strong benefits for firefighters. The bargaining agreement includes:
- Pay raises to make AFR competitive with surrounding departments.
- Incentives for EMTs to advance from basic to intermediate certificates and further their training and lifesaving skills.
- Pay raises for promotions at every level to promote retention and keep firefighters in the department.
- Injury time for firefighters so they can fully recover when harmed in the line of duty.
In 2024, the City also completed its first ever agreement with CWA for Albuquerque Community Safety Responders and finalized agreements that provide salary increases and benefits for police officers and frontline city workers represented by APOA, AFSCME Local 624, AFSCME Local 1888, AFSCME Local 2962, and AFSCME Local 3022.
