October 12, 2018
On Friday, Mayor Tim Keller announced new Assistant Mayor Gary Lee at the City. Raised in Albuquerque, Gary Lee is part of a number of staff who are returning home bringing their invaluable experience to the City.
“Bringing home-grown talent back to the city is important as we tackle the challenges ahead,” stated Mayor Tim Keller. “Gary Lee was the perfect fit for this spot. He brings with him a wealth of knowledge about how to run an executive office and a love for his hometown that will serve our city well.”
As Assistant Mayor, Gary Lee will work to support staff through administrative processes and will assist with Mayor Keller’s policy initiatives to carry out his vision to create a safe, inclusive, and innovative city. The repurposed position is part of Mayor Tim Keller’s innovative approach to make city government as effective and efficient as possible.
“I’m excited to be a part of a team who is making progress on the challenges facing Albuquerque right now,” said new Assistant Mayor Gary Lee. “After spending time away from my hometown, I am looking forward to returning and I am grateful for the opportunity to work for the place I grew up and call home.”
Gary Lee spent more than 10 years working for President Obama. While serving at the White House, he was part of the President’s Legislative Affairs team that helped pass the Affordable Care Act. His positions in the offices of Staff Secretary, Political Strategy, Scheduling and Advance, and at the State Department in the Office of Protocol give Gary Lee the specific experience to carry out the Mayor’s major initiatives to move the city forward.
After serving the country in the White House, he was awarded a Fulbright research scholarship in Korea. An Albuquerque native, Gary graduated from UNM School of Law in December of 2017 and passed the bar in February of 2018.
