“CABQ Day” Helps Connect College Students to Opportunities in Public Service
Today, Mayor Tim Keller and City leaders from various departments visited New Mexico State University to engage with students and share about the opportunities that exist within the City of Albuquerque. This visit was a part of the City’s statewide higher education roadshow, aimed at bolstering the local workforce and spreading the word about careers for young people here in New Mexico.
“Our state’s young people are the key to building a better city for generations to come and bringing the promise of Albuquerque to life,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “Albuquerque is a place where young families can thrive, and we have opportunities that can help them do that. We look forward to meeting students all across our state and encouraging them to stay here and give back to the community they love.”
“We are delighted to host our friends from Albuquerque any time they visit,” said NMSU Interim President Jay Gogue. “We appreciate that Mayor Keller made time to meet with our students and tour some of our top-notch facilities. NMSU recruits a tremendous number of students from the Albuquerque area and it’s where many of our alumni move to after graduation. We applaud his efforts to keep more college graduates in the state of New Mexico.”
The visit included a job fair, as well as a chance to meet with students from different backgrounds and areas of study. City departments shared the variety of jobs and career paths available, such as engineering, planning, legal, information technology, social work, public safety and more. Mayor Keller also discussed his own path, highlighting the diverse educational and experience backgrounds that can translate into a career in public service.
The higher education roadshow will continue over the course of the next year, reaching universities, community colleges, and technical schools throughout New Mexico to inspire students to build a career here at home.
