Albuquerque Fire Department Takes Top Honors
At the 2015 National Fire-Rescue Med EMS Conference last month, the IAFC’s EMS Section honored the Albuquerque Fire Department with the annual Heart Safe Community Award. The award recognizes organizations with creative approaches to implementing and maintaining systems to prevent and treat cardiac-related diseases within their communities.

AFD Firefighter is Presented with Firefighter of the Year Award
On Monday, September 10th AFD Lt. Martin Salazar was recognized as New Mexico’s 2012 Firefighter of the Year. The ceremony took place in Socorro at the NM State Firefighter’s Conference. Lt. Salazar’s family was there to celebrate this momentous occasion.

Mayor Richard J. Berry Honors Five Albuquerque Firefighters as This Weeks Friday’s Heroes On Friday June 17, Mayor Richard J. Berry recognized five Albuquerque Firefighters from Squad 2for rescuing a trapped woman from her burning apartment building. This weeks Friday’s Heroes is Albuquerque Fire Departments Squad 2, which consists of Captain Paul Dow, Driver Michael Palmer, Firefighter Jose Gomez, Firefighter Anthony Mazotti and Albuquerque Fire Dispatcher Driver Michael Mora.
Mayor Richard J. Berry Honors Four Albuquerque Firefighters as This Weeks Friday’s Heroes
On Friday June 10, Mayor Richard J. Berry recognized four Albuquerque Firefighters from Engine-3 for saving a building and the property inside from fire. This weeks Friday’s Heroes are AFD Lieutenant Bryan Pacheco, Firefighters Dominic Velasquez, Dale Knighton, and Jose Gomez.
Lt. Emily Kane Honored as Employee of the Week
Lieutenant Emily Kane, who is assigned to Rescue 15 of the Albuquerque Fire Department and has been with the City since 2001, is this week’s Employee of the Week. Lt. Emily Kane has been the department's lead instructor for flood channel, swift water, and river rescue courses for the past ten years. Her expertise in this field has led to improved training, proficiency, safety, and operational effectiveness for water related rescue operations.
Dedication of New Trucks
The Albuquerque Fire Department placed two new paramedic rescue trucks and one new fire engine into service on Friday, May 20th 2011 at 9 am at Fire Station 12, located at 201 Muriel NE.
Young Boy and Dispatcher Honored for Handling of Emergency Medical Call
On Friday, Mayor Richard J. Berry recognized nine year old Richard Jenkins and Albuquerque Fire Department Dispatcher/Driver Jeff Bussey for the handling of a 911 call in which Richard called for assistance for his grandmother after she suffered a stroke.
Off Duty FF Recognized for Evacuating Citizens from Apartment Fire
Each week Mayor Richard J. Berry honors at least one public safety employee for going above and beyond the call of duty in performing their work. This week Public Safety Director Darren White presented the Friday’s Hero award on behalf of the mayor, honoring an off-duty Albuquerque Firefighter for entering a burning apartment building to help evacuate residents.

Mayor Recognizes Albuquerque Firefighters For Lifesaving Efforts
This week’s Friday’s Heroes are with the Albuquerque Fire Department Engine-18 and Rescue-18 and 27. Captain Frank Soto, Lt. Marvin Gouch, Lt. Mike Martinez, Driver Brian Glenn and Driver Manny Zamora Jr. are being honored for their efforts to revive an unresponsive 16 month old baby girl after a serious car crash.

At an informal ceremony in the Auditorim at the Fire Academy, new promotions were made and our latest retirees were recognized for their outstanding service to the Albuqueruque Fire Department.
Mayor Recognizes Albuquerque Firefighters
On Friday, April 15th, AFD Engine-21 and Rescue-21 crews Lt. Ron Herrera, Driver Phil Preciado, Firefighter Aaron Sandoval, Firefighter Chester Fuller, and from Resuce-21 Lt. Richard Barela and Driver Timothy Woodard were honored for reviving a two year old baby boy who had drowned. Also honored was AFD Chaplain Lieutenant Jerome Rael, who has assisted the family since the incident.

AFD Fire Fighter's Save Teen From Raging Arroyo
At 3:00pm on July 28th, a 16 year old male was crossing the arroyo at Juan Tabo and Candelaria in Albuquerque, NM with minimal water visible. On his second step into the arroyo, an enormous gush of water knocked him off his feet and carried him west down the arroyo. A friend of his called 911 from the scene.
Engine 5 Runs Nursing Home
Receiving a medical call at a nursing home was nothing unusual for the crew of Engine 5. But on Thursday, July 15 there was nothing routine about the call they received to help a woman who was ill at a nursing home near Louisiana and Central NE.
