Lt. Emily Kane Honored as Employee of the Week

During the weeks of May 9 and 16, Lieutenant Kane again provided this valuable training to department members. The training involves a unique set of rope, rigging, personal protective equipment and rescue techniques. Training was provided to the 9 stations on all 3 shifts that have flood channel rescue responsibilities, and to the Technical Rescue task force.

This year Lieutenant Kane created an Incident Commander Worksheet for use by the Commanders during flood channel operations and worked with the Alarm Room and Technical Services Division to improve dispatch procedures to these types of incidents.

Lt. Kane participates in this program as an adjunct instructor. Lt. Kane also is a nationally recognized water rescue expert and voluntarily assumes the role of lead instructor as an additional duty.

“It is of great value to the city to have individuals with Lt. Kane’s expertise to provide this critical training,” said Mayor Berry. “Her willingness to share her knowledge reinforces the fact that Albuquerque firefighters are among the best trained fire personnel in the country.”
