Community Policy Engagement

The CPOA and CPOAB are deeply committed to the APD policy development and review process and hold that establishing and implementing sound policies is essential to ensuring quality public safety services because effective police accountability necessitates clear, consistent, and detailed policies. This commitment is outlined in the Oversight Ordinance and is enacted through regular policy, disciplinary, training, and procedural recommendations shared with the City Council, the Mayor’s Office, and APD.

APD policies are reviewed six months after implementation and annually thereafter. When policies are up for revision, they will be open to public commentary for 15 days, but a recommendation may be made at any time.

The public is encouraged to engage in the policy process by reviewing APD policies and making recommendations on or off-cycle.
