November 10, 2024

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – The City of Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller, Metropolitan Redevelopment Agency (MRA) Director Terry Brunner, District 2 Councilor Joaqun Baca, and District 3 Councilor Klarissa Peña are proud to announce the launch of a new pilot program, "Park & Chill Sundays," offering Albuquerque's lowrider community and car enthusiasts a designated space to showcase their vehicles on Sunday evenings in Downtown Albuquerque.

"Albuquerque’s lowrider culture is deeply woven into the fabric of our city, and Park & Chill Sundays gives us a chance to celebrate it in a way that unites our community,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “This program brings our families and friends together in a safe environment in the heart of downtown.”

Park & Chill Sundays will take place every Sunday from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The pilot program started on November 10, 2024, and will continue each Sunday through February.  Lowriders will be able to use the parking lot located between 6th & 7th St, North of Central.

"Park & Chill Sundays is a perfect example of our commitment to supporting Albuquerque’s vibrant cultural identity,” said Chief of Staff and Interim Metropolitan Redevelopment Director Terry Brunner. “We want our downtown to reflect the spirit of our community and celebrate Albuquerque’s traditions."

“The Park & Chill pilot program will be a great addition to the lowrider and downtown communities. One unique aspect of downtown is that culturally diverse groups can come together, which doesn't happen often in other cities,” said District 2 City Councilor Joaquín Baca.
