Community Mourns the Loss of Beloved Leader

ALBUQUERQUE - It is with profound sadness that City Councilor Klarissa Peña announces the passing of Geraldine Ulibarri, a cherished community leader and dedicated volunteer who left an indelible mark on our city, particularly in the Southwest Mesa. Geraldine Ulibarri passed away unexpectedly on August 31, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, service, and unwavering commitment to our community.

Geraldine was a mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her passion for improving the lives of others, along with her extraordinary leadership and tireless dedication, has had a significant impact on our city. Geraldine was a cornerstone of our community, dedicating her life to making a positive impact through countless hours of volunteer work as Vice President of the West Central Community Development Group, Vice President of the Southwest Alliance of Neighborhoods, and a member of the Board of the Avalon Neighborhood Association. She was instrumental in the development of the Route 66 Visitors Center, Ken Sanchez Fire Station 7, the Central and Unser Library, and the West Gate Community Center.

Throughout her decades of service, Geraldine inspired countless individuals with her kindness, resilience, and generosity. Her ability to bring people together, foster community spirit, and address local needs with enthusiasm made her an irreplaceable part of our city's fabric.

City Councilor Klarissa Peña extends her deepest condolences to Geraldine’s family, friends, and all those who were touched by her work. We recognize that this loss is deeply felt across our community, and we stand united in honoring Geraldine's remarkable life and contributions.

 

City Councilor Klarissa Peña represents District 3, encompassing the Southwest Mesa and parts of the South Valley from Central Ave south and west of the Rio Grande in the incorporated area.
