City Council Approves Legislation to Make Public Spaces Safer
Albuquerque, NM – The Albuquerque City Council approved ordinances O-24-56, and O-24-58, making public spaces safer, curtailing dangerous camping.
"I would like to thank my fellow City Councilors who worked with me to ensure that our public spaces are safe, clean, and available for their intended purpose,” said District 9 City Councilor and Council Vice President Renée Grout. “These ordinances directly address issues that impact the availability and use of our parks and public spaces."
Councilor Grout introduced the ordinances in November, addressing critical safety and quality of life issues within our community’s shared spaces. The ordinances key initiatives are:
Park Maintenance and Playground Safety: O-24-56 addresses issues such as littering, vandalism, and the misuse of park facilities. By promoting responsible park usage, the City aims to preserve the natural beauty of our parks and enhance the overall experience for visitors.
Public Camping Regulations: O-24-58 prohibits public camping in unauthorized areas, such as parks, streets, and sidewalks. This ordinance is designed to protect public health and safety, preserve public spaces, and reduce the negative impacts encampments often have on neighborhoods.
