Central Avenue Neon

In preparation for the Route 66 Centennial in 2026, the City of Albuquerque will design and create an iconic neon sign that will reside on East Central Avenue, the Destination Forward program will support the implementation of this project.

Background

City Councilor Renée Grout is working with City staff and engineers and architects from Wilson & Company to design a cantilevered neon arch for east Central Avenue, just west of Tramway. The sign will be a focal point for the community and a catalyst for further restoration of the neon signage along Route 66. The project was recently awarded a $328,800 Destination Forward grant from the New Mexico Department of Tourism.
