City Councilor Champine Issues Statement on the Apprenticeship Empowerment Ordinance
District 8 City Councilor Dan Champine issues the statement below regarding the withdrawal of proposed O-24-39 at the November 4, 2024, City Council Meeting.
“I have always believed that effective governance is rooted in integrity, accountability, and the willingness to adapt and grow in response to new information and perspectives. When I initially supported this bill, I did so with the conviction that it would serve our community’s best interests. However, as discussions evolved and feedback poured in from various stakeholders, including constituents, experts, and advocacy groups, I began to realize that my understanding of the implications of this legislation was incomplete.
I assure you that my change of vision is not a sign of weakness, but rather a testament to the evolving nature of leadership. It is a reminder that our work as public servants involves ongoing learning and adaptation in response to the needs of the people we serve.
Thank you for the understanding and support as I navigate this complex landscape. Together, we can continue to build a government that is responsive, responsible, and reflective of our community’s values.”
