Albuquerque – City Councilor Dan Lewis of District 5 has successfully secured funding to repaint the Paseo del Norte bridge over Coors Boulevard, a vital transportation landmark in the Northwest Mesa. The funding is for the overpass over Coors Boulevard and addresses the bridge’s aging appearance and continued structural integrity.

Councilor Lewis, demonstrating his dedication to addressing the community’s needs, used some of his City Council Neighborhood Set-Aside funding from previously voter-approved General Obligation bonds.

Councilor Lewis’ effort highlights the collaborative relationship between the City of Albuquerque and the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT), building on a history of successful partnerships such as the I-25/Paseo del Norte interchange construction and the “Big I” landscape project.

“Refreshing the bridge shows drivers that the City is paying attention to keeping our infrastructure in the best possible shape,” stated Councilor Dan Lewis. “Tens of thousands of people traverse this intersection annually, and we want to ensure they experience a well-maintained and visually appealing gateway. We are grateful for the NMDOT’s cooperation and collaboration in making this project a reality.”

The Paseo del Norte overpass, approaching its 40th year, has experienced significant paint fading and water streaking, and has long needed revitalization. To protect the steel beams and enhance the bridge’s aesthetic appeal, the repainting will be executed in the NMDOT’s “Deseret Sunset” color scheme.

The project is slated to commence in early to mid-summer of 2025, with completion expected by the end of the year. This repainting will not only improve the visual landscape but also contribute to the longevity and safety of this crucial infrastructure.

“This project is a testament to our commitment to maintaining and enhancing the infrastructure that serves our community,” Councilor Lewis added. “We are dedicated to ensuring that our city’s landmarks reflect the pride we have in Albuquerque.”
