Albuquerque City Council President Brook Bassan and Councilor Renée Grout Respond to Suspected Arson at Republican Party of New Mexico Headquarters

The crime scene remains under investigation.

Albuquerque, NM – Albuquerque City Councilors Brook Bassan and Renée Grout express concern and condemn the suspected arson attack at the Republican Party of New Mexico headquarters.

“We are grateful that no one was harmed in this dangerous attack,” said Albuquerque City Council President and District 4 Councilor Brook Bassan. “The safety and security of all individuals and organizations are the primary responsibility of government. We stand united with the community against any attempt to disrupt or undermine that safety.”

The Albuquerque Fire Rescue Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and local and federal law enforcement agencies are investigating the crime scene.

“We echo the sentiments of Republican Party of New Mexico Chairwoman Amy Barela,” said District 9 City Councilor Renée Grout.  “Such actions have no place in our community. Those who resort to intimidation or violence to silence others must be held accountable. We urge anyone with information about this incident to come forward and cooperate with the authorities.”
