Human Rights Board
Membership
All members shall be named by the Mayor with the consent of the City Council. The Mayor shall endeavor in all appointments to create and maintain a Board broadly representative of the city population, and in particular, its racial, ethnic and cultural spectrum.
Description
Pursuant to Article VIII of The Albuquerque City Charter & the Albuquerque Code of ordinances § 11-3, in order to assure the public safety, public health and general welfare, the Purpose of the Albuquerque Human Rights Board is to:
- Preserve, protect, and promote human rights and human dignity;
- Promote and encourage the recognition and exercise of human responsibility;
- Protect and promote equality of access to public goods and services; and
- Prohibit discrimination on the basis of age, ancestry, color, cultural headdress, disability, gender, gender identity, national origin, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, and source of income* in the at least the following areas:
- in places of public accommodations;
- In housing accommodations; and
- In commercial space.

Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service for effective communication, or a modification of policies or procedures to participate in a program, service, or activity of the City of Albuquerque, should contact the Office of Civil Rights at 505-768-4595 as soon as possible but no later than 72 hours before the scheduled event.
