STEAM Night Welcomes Zozobra
A roaring evening of excitement will be presented by the Anderson Abruzzo Albuquerque International Balloon Museum as it celebrates the 100th anniversary of Will Shuster’s Zozobra during STEAM Night on Saturday, February 1 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Included in regular museum admission, STEAM Night will feature hands-on activities and live presentations.
Families can immerse themselves in the fascinating history and artistry behind the legendary Zozobra, including the making of the Zozobra hot air balloon. Zozobra will inflate and rise above the museum’s north lawn (weather permitting), and there will also be a remote control Zozobra balloon demo.
“This STEAM Night offers a unique opportunity for families to explore the intersection of art, history, and science while celebrating two beloved cultural traditions – Zozobra and ballooning,” Balloon Museum Manager Nan Masland said. “We’re thrilled to partner with The Kiwanis Club of Santa Fe to bring this dynamic event to life.”
"This event will spark kids' imagination with a unique New Mexico flavor," said Mayor Tim Keller. “When our cities partnered on the Zozobra balloon, we created a special celebration of our traditions, and now there is another dimension for families to enjoy.”
Last year, Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller and Santa Fe Mayor Alan Webber came together to unveil the much-anticipated design of the Zozobra special shape hot air balloon. The Zozobra hot air balloon is sponsored in part by the City of Albuquerque’s Department of Arts & Culture and Tourism Santa Fe, in partnership with the Kiwanis Club of Santa Fe.
