Soar into Spring Break with AIR-Mazing Activities at the Balloon Museum

Hands-on fun and high-flying science for all ages.
March 11, 2025

Get ready to take flight this spring break with AIR-Mazing Activities, an exciting, hands-on adventure exploring the incredible science of air at the Anderson Abruzzo Albuquerque International Balloon Museum. From March 18–21, the museum invites visitors of all ages to discover the fascinating forces of lift, buoyancy, and airflow through interactive experiments and engaging demonstrations.

Whether you're a budding scientist or just looking for some high-flying fun, you can:

Defy Gravity – keep a balloon suspended in mid-air using only a simple house fan
Master the Wind – test your skills at the wind table and balance lift and load
Explore Buoyancy – experiment with ballast, rainbows, and floating rubber ducks
Rise to New Heights – watch balloons soar to the ceiling, powered by hot air

“A break from school is the perfect opportunity to explore new interests and keep young minds engaged,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “Whether it’s hands-on science at the Balloon Museum or outdoor adventures at the BioPark, every moment of discovery helps kids learn, grow, and thrive.”

AIR-Mazing Activities encourage creativity, curiosity, and discovery, making learning an unforgettable experience. And for the youngest explorers, there will be a special edition of Stories in the Sky on Wednesday, March 19, at 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m., featuring the one and only Science Girl’s Lab—a thrilling interactive session designed to ignite a love of science in early learners.

The adventure reaches new heights on Friday, March 21, with an incredible virtual reality (VR) hot air balloon ride presented by Jesse Sansom and Visit Albuquerque. From noon to 4:30 p.m., visitors can experience the breathtaking sensation of floating high above the world without ever leaving the ground. The Munchie Truck will be onsite serving tasty treats from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Munchie Truck is offering a promotional discount on food orders for youth 18 and under.

All activities are included with museum admission. Tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance at https://www.cabq.gov/artsculture/tickets.
