Shenandoah to Headline Family Friendly Freedom 4th at Balloon Fiesta Park
July 27, 2022 - The City of Albuquerque's Freedom 4th returns to Balloon Fiesta Park for a fun filled day of entertainment and family friendly activities on Monday, July 4 from 3 to 10 p.m. Headlining the free event is Shenandoah, one of the greatest groups in country music, as they embark on their 35th anniversary tour. Local music, activities for kids, and eats and drinks all lead up to the state's brightest fireworks show.
When country music lovers talk about the greatest groups in the genre, Shenandoah is always at the forefront of any discussion. Fueled by Marty Raybon’s distinctive vocals and the band’s skilled musicianship, Shenandoah became well known for delivering such hits as Two Dozen Roses, Church on Cumberland Road, and Next to You, Next to Me, as well as such achingly beautiful classics as I Want to be Loved Like That and the Grammy winning Somewhere in the Vicinity of the Heart duet with Alison Krauss. The boys from Muscle Shoals have left a potent legacy in country music with more than 300 million streams, more than 8 million combined album sales, and 13 No. 1 radio singles over the course of more than three decades. Shenandoah takes the stage at 7:45 p.m.
Local performers include:
Nathaniel Krantz (country) at 4 p.m.
Mondo Vibrations (reggae) at 5:15 p.m.
Str8 Shot (New Mexican) at 6:30 p.m.
A 4th of July ceremony will begin at 7:30 p.m. and a 45-minute fireworks show will close out the night at 9:15 p.m. (weather permitting). Throughout the evening, concert goers can grab a bite to eat from local food vendors offering treats ranging from burgers to ice cream. Local breweries, distilleries, and wineries will be onsite in The Cantina, where there will be a great view of the main stage. Free activities for kids include face painting, inflatable jump houses, and two climbing walls.
All parking at Balloon Fiesta Park is $10 cash only per vehicle upon arrival. Prepay for parking at https://bit.ly/3uekXfN for contactless entry. Park & Ride service provided by ABQ Ride will run from Cottonwood and Coronado malls to Balloon Fiesta Park from 3 to 7:30 p.m. Return trips to the two Park & Ride locations will begin immediately after the fireworks show. A Bike Valet will be provided by Esperanza Bicycle Education Center at the northeast side of the Balloon Museum.
