Register for the Public Library’s Free Summer Reading Program

Avoid the summer slide and win fun prizes along the way,
May 10, 2024

The Public Library of Albuquerque/Bernalillo County has opened online registration for its 2024 Summer Reading Program, a celebration of reading, learning, and fun for children, adults, and families of all ages. This year’s theme is Adventure Begins at Your Library. Online registration is open at www.abqlibrary.org/sumerreading.

The free 8-week program encourages everyone to read throughout the summer, which is especially important for students to avoid the “summer slide.” The “summer slide” is a term used to describe a student’s loss of achievement gains in reading levels while out of school. Great prizes are up for grabs for participants of all ages.

“Summer reading isn’t just a pastime, it’s an important practice for continued learning and personal enrichment for residents of all ages,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “Our Public Library makes it easy for families to discover new books, authors, and genres at no cost, just a free library card.”

The Summer Reading Program launches on June 1 with in-person registration at library branches and special kick-off events featuring family-friendly entertainment, concerts, movies, crafts, and other activities. This year’s program will feature performances and programs from talented artists, partners, and library staff. The program runs through July 27.

The Summer Reading Program is funded by the Friends of the Public Library.
