New Teen Volunteer Opportunities This Summer
May 3, 2022 - The ABQ BioPark has some exciting new opportunities for teen volunteers this summer!
Currently, teens 14 and older can serve as nature guides, helping with summer discovery stations at the Zoo, Aquarium and Botanic Garden. Teens 16 and older can also volunteer as conservation camp counselors for Camp BioPark at the Zoo, Aquarium, Tingley Beach and Botanic Garden.
This year, the BioPark is implementing new opportunities for our teen volunteers. Both camp counselors and nature guides will have the unique opportunity to apply for our new career exploration program, and will have opportunities to participate in service projects throughout the BioPark!
The career exploration option (available for teens ages 16-18) will enable teen volunteers to attend presentations and hands-on activities with staff to learn all the options for working at the BioPark. “Our goal is to show our teens how to carve their own paths to these careers,” said Rebecca Pry, ABQ BioPark volunteer specialist.
Teens 14-18 will also have the opportunity to take part in week-long projects where they can help contribute to an on-grounds projects. Some of these projects include helping staff in the Botanic Garden, building enrichment items for our animals, and maintaining a hydroponics tower.
“We love our teen volunteers, and are excited to offer some new opportunities that will help them explore their own future career paths,” said Pry.
In order to volunteer for the ABQ BioPark this summer, teens must first fill out the teen volunteer application. The application deadline for the May 14 orientation is May 9. After receiving a confirmation from the ABQ BioPark, they’ll be invited to one of the upcoming mandatory orientations:
