Job Opportunity at the ABQ BioPark: Site Supervisor III

The ABQ BioPark’s Life Support/Water Quality team is seeking a friendly and motivated team member to serve as a Water Quality/Life Support Helper at the ABQ BioPark.

The successful candidate will enjoy working with a friendly, high paced, and dynamic team at the BioPark facilities. Day to day you will be helping the Life Support/Water Quality (LSS) team care for all of the aquatic habitats and water features throughout the whole facility; this includes but not limited to the Aquarium, Sharks, Tingley beach, Elephants, Penguins, Polar bears, Hippos, Tigers, Chimps, and even our friendly koi ponds. 

The ABQ BioPark consists of the Zoo, Aquarium and Botanic Garden, and Tingley Beach.

This position is employed through a temporary staffing agency, not the City of Albuquerque, and is located at the ABQ BioPark. This full time position is limited to a two year term.

The Life Support/Water Quality helpers duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Learning about all aspects of Life Support and Water Quality.
  • Working with and/or around a variety of aquatic animal species including Koi, Sharks, Polar Bears, Penguins, Elephants, Hippos, Alligators, and others…  
  • Escorting media visits, producing talking points and assisting with photo and b-roll collection.
  • Assisting with aquatic life support systems such as pumps, filters, valves, and any other related equipment. 
  • Testing and analysis of water quality.
  • Aquatic clean up.
  • General maintenance around the facility (Tingley Beach, Aquarium, Zoo, and Botanic Gardens).
  • Perform duties and responsibilities as assigned.

A Successful Life Support/Water Quality Helper will:

  • Be comfortable working alone. 
  • Have a friendly and open personality and enjoy working with a diverse cross section of individuals from a variety of departments at all levels of government and job positions.
  • Be punctual and a good self-starter.
  • Be a good team player.
  • Be motivated to seek out and share conservation stories.
  • Be comfortable working outdoors in variable weather conditions.

Qualifications

Applicants must be 18 years or older and physically able to lift or move up to 50 pounds. Comfortable working in and around water, in a combination of indoor and outdoor environments, on slippery or uneven surfaces, and may involve exposure to chemicals, noise, dust, heat, cold and/or inclement weather conditions. Physical requirements include the ability to sit, stand, bend, kneel, push, pull, read, write and speak English. 

Candidates must pass a security background check to be hired.

Work schedule: 

Full-time; generally from 8 a.m.-5 p.m Sunday through Thursday. Occasional short periods of holiday and evening work may be required.

Pay rate: 

$14.00 per hour. This position is employed through a temporary staffing agency, not the City of Albuquerque.
