Veterinary Care

The ABQ BioPark’s veterinary team includes two veterinarians and two vet techs. Our veterinary staff has more than 59 years of combined experience with 39 of those years in zoo settings. Head Veterinarian Dr. Carol Bradford, doctor of veterinary medicine, is also a board certified specialist in zoological medicine as awarded by the American College of Zoological Medicine. Only 275 veterinarians worldwide hold this designation, with approximately 200 of them practicing in the United States.

Veterinary staff regularly conduct routine rounds to observe all BioPark animals. Any concerns are discussed and addressed immediately with animal care staff. All animals at the BioPark have annual examinations, and the veterinary team follows a clear vaccination schedule.

Veterinary staff is available 24 hours a day and seven days a week to address all animal concerns. Veterinarian contact information is posted in all animal care areas so that staff may contact them at any time.
