1-5 pm: SATURDAY OPENING


1 pm: PERFORMANCE The Life Cycle of Rainbows

Delve into artist India Sky Davis’ live music score and movement performance for her film The Life Cycle of Rainbows, a body of work inspired by the BaKongo Cosmogram’s influence and permutations within Afro-diasporic music and dance traditions, including underground disco, house, and ballroom culture.


3 pm: CONVERSATION Artists’ Roundtable

Join exhibiting artists CASSILS, Tanya Aguiñiga, Jeremy Dennis, Amaryllis R. Flowers and Guadalupe Maravilla in conversation with Broken Boxes hosts Ginger Dunnill and Cannupa Hanska Luger as they share about community building, solidarity and survival in the arts. Co-curator Josie Lopez will provide opening remarks and introductions.

 

7 pm: CONCERT Mato Wayuhi / The Tewa

Composer for the award-winning FX/Hulu series Reservation Dogs, Oglala Lakota musician, artist, and actor Mato Wayuhi will perform songs from his acclaimed 2O24 album, STANKFACE STANDING SOLDIER, a self-produced record which Forbes calls “a masterpiece that revolutionizes Indigenous music into a new era.” Albuquerque's own 3-piece Indigenous Midwest Emo band The Tewa to play an opening set.

WORKSHOP LGBTQIA+ Inversions of Power

Spiritualized martial arts focusing on inversions of power through artful martial theater and somatic intelligence (for all bodies) for members of the LGBTQIA+ community. This program is presented in partnership with exhibiting artist CASSILS and SITE Santa Fe. Capacity is limited and registration is required.

 

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

India Sky Davis is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice encompasses music, film, installation, and performance. Her work explores themes of ancestry, power, and spirit, and she is dedicated to uplifting Black, queer, and femme voices through artistic and collaborative endeavors.

CASSILS uses their body as the medium for performances addressing violence that impacts the LGBTQI+ community and exploring mechanisms of survival. Their work, which investigates power structures and social expectations, has been exhibited internationally and has earned numerous prestigious awards. CASSILS is an Associate Professor at Pratt Institute.
