Membership
The mission of the CAIANA is to support, strengthen, and promote understanding, recognition and respect of Native American culture and contributions through the work of the City of Albuquerque Office of Native American Affairs. The CAIANA and its members are committed to a shared vision where Native people, community, and culture are nurtured, respected, safe and celebrated in the City of Albuquerque.
The CAIANA was established by City Council Resolution in 1994 as the forum for the government-to-government relations and as an advocate for Native American resident affairs within the City of Albuquerque. The purpose of the CAIANA serves as an advising body to the Mayor and City Council by developing and providing recommendations, consultation and supporting activities. Efforts of the Committee are to be coordinated with the work of the Albuquerque Office of Native American Affairs and Office of Equity and Inclusion.
All members shall be named by the Mayor with the consent of the City Council. The Mayor shall endeavor in all appointments to create and maintain a Board broadly representative of the city population, and in particular, its racial, ethnic and cultural spectrum.
Meeting Information
Dates & Time: The Commission meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 5:30 p.m., unless another time is indicated on the agenda.
Accommodations: Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service for effective communication, or a modification of policies or procedures to participate in a program, service, or activity of the City of Albuquerque, should contact the Office of the ADA Coordinator at 505-768-3073 as soon as possible but no later than 72 hours before the scheduled event.
