Tuition Assistance
The City of Albuquerque is a proponent of higher education and encourages and supports employees in reaching their educational goals through the Tuition Assistance and Educational Leave Programs.
- Tuition Assistance is awarded as a reimbursement.
- Must be from a regionally accredited college or university.
- Associate and Bachelor Degrees reimbursement is based on
- successful completion of up to 9 credit hours per Fall and Spring terms
- at the rate of up to $265 per credit hour not to exceed $2,385 per term.
- Graduate Degrees reimbursement is based on
- successful completion of up to 6 credit hours per Fall and Spring terms
- at the rate of up to $265 per credit hour not to exceed $1,590 per term.
Employees must be classified or unclassified regular part-time or full-time employees of the City of Albuquerque who have completed their probationary period.
Please note: Reimbursement rates may be less due to the number of applicants in a semester or available funding in our budget.
Note: Reimbursement is for Tuition Only. Fees, books, and other costs will not be reimbursed.
Dates
Applications are due by the deadlines listed below:
2024 Spring Term – Classes January – May
- Application Opens: May 15, 2024
- Applications Due: June 15, 2024
After completing the online application employees must submit all receipts and grades for the current term to the CABQ Employee Learning Center. Employees will be notified of application status within two weeks of the deadline. It is the employee's responsibility to ensure all materials are submitted and received by the CABQ Employee Learning Center.

Education Leave
Education Leave is available year-round to eligible employees. All Education Leave requests must be signed/approved by the employee’s direct supervisor, Division Manager, and Department Director. Education Leave does not include Tuition Assistance. Employees must complete the application form and submit it to the CABQ Employee Learning Center to use Education Leave.
