  • 27- 10/24/2019 - CASE: Helping in Crisis - DIDACTIC: The Opioid Epidemic

    CASE: De-escalating someone in crisis DIDACTIC: New Mexico has one of the highest rates of drug overdose death in the United States. Jennifer Weiss-Burke will return to our network, to discuss how opioids have affected people here in our community. She will provide examples of situations which have led to the use of opioids, how they are accessed, and what resources are available to someone who may find themselves addicted.

  • 26- 10/17/2019 - CASE: Homeless Mother and Son - DIDACTIC: Human Trafficking

    CASE: Homeless Mother and Son DIDACTIC: AAG Probasco and SA Maez will present to the network on their work with the Attorney General’s office to combat human trafficking. They will discuss signs victims may show and they will provide examples of what civilians can do to alert law enforcement.

  • 28- 10/31/2019 - CASE: Guiding a Person Towards Resources - DIDACTIC: Concepts of Community Policing

    CASE: Connecting someone to additional care, supporting their access to services. DIDACTIC: “Community policing” is a phrase used often to describe police interacting with the community, the objective of this session is to take a deeper dive on what this means and how it is implemented here in Downtown Albuquerque and elsewhere. Matt Thomas will present on the concepts of community policing, police public engagement, and the history of the police force. He will also discuss modern policing strategies and ideologies.

  • 30- 11/14/2019 - CASE: Active Shooter Special Presentation: Ben E. Keith - DIDACTIC: Active Shooter

    CASE: The case presented at this session will be on the 2018 Ben E. Keith shooting in Albuquerque where survivors of the attack ran and hid from the attacker. The objective of this case presentation will be to highlight Run. Hide. Fight. and ALICE protocols for maximizing safety. DIDACTIC: This is part two of a three-part series, specially formatted for our network, to educate participants on what to do in the event of an active shooter. In this session Ofc. DeBuck will discuss protocols developed to maximize safety in an active shooter situation.

  • 29- 11/7/2019 - CASE: Active Shooter Special Presentation: Emcore - DIDACTIC: Active Shooter

    CASE: The Emcore shooting began as a domestic violence situation. The offender went on a shooting spree outside an office building, killed three people before killing himself. Prior to the shooting, there was pattern of violent behavior towards his girlfriend. He had told multiple people that he was going to kill her. Nobody reported that. What we would like to highlight is the pre-assault indicators the offender exhibited so the network can learn them and know what to look for if it occurs. We would also like to highlight why we teach run, hide, fight. DIDACTIC: This is part one of a three-part series, specially formatted for our network, to educate participants on what to do in the event of an active shooter. In each session we will go through real scenarios and discuss ways to prevent similar situations from happening in the future. Throughout the series, presenters will cover Run. Hide. Fight and ALICE protocols. To ensure every question gets answered, APD officers will be online to answer questions as they arise in the chat.

  • 31- 11/21/2019 - CASE: Active Shooter Special Presentation: Christopher Chase - DIDACTIC: Active Shooter

    CASE: The case presented at this session will be on the 2013 Christopher Chase shooting, where Christopher Chase drove through Albuquerque and Los Ranchos. The objective of this case presentation will be to inform our network on how to prepare for the unexpected. DIDACTIC: This is the final session of a three part series on active shooters. In this session Ofc. DeBuck will discuss how to maximize safety and be prepared if an active shooter situation were to occur in an unpredictable scenario.

  • 33- 12/12/2019 - CASE: Where to Use a Phone - DIDACTIC: Personality Disorders : Cluster A

    CASE: Where to use a phone DIDACTIC: The objective of this session is to inform the network on what defines a personality disorder, known as a disorder in which a person has a rigid and unhealthy pattern of thinking, functioning and behaving. There are ten personality disorders group into three clusters known as A, B, and C. Dr. Rosenbaum will present to the network on Cluster A, which includes Paranoid, Schizoid, and Schizotypal personality disorders.
