APD investigating shooting death of 5-year-old girl
ALBUQUERQUE – APD Homicide detectives are investigating an early morning shooting that resulted in the death of a 5-year-old girl in Southwest Albuquerque.
Detectives determined the girl did not live at the trailer where the shooting occurred shortly before 6 a.m., at the 2700 block of Paseo del Canto Dr., S.W. She was staying at the trailer last night and sleeping in a front room facing the street when someone fired a gun into the trailer. The girl was struck at least one time. An officer who arrived on scene shortly after the shooting attempted life-saving measures until the girl was transported to a hospital, where she died as a result of her wounds.
“It appears at this point that the offender intended to shoot someone else, but blindly shot into a residence and tragically killed this young girl,” APD Chief Harold Medina said. “We believe there are people in the community who can provide details about this shooting. I hope they have a conscience and reach out to detectives so they can bring justice to this victim.”
Anyone with information about the shooting or those who were involved can call 505-242-COPS.
