East Gateway
The goal of the East Gateway Metropolitan Redevelopment Area Plan (2016) is to make Central Avenue more welcoming to residents and visitors arriving at the City’s edge by facilitating redevelopment of vacant and underutilized parcels and providing for a greater variety of businesses and services that are much needed in the area. The Plan calls for multiple investments and improvements facilitated by the City’s Metropolitan Redevelopment Area (MRA) and is aimed at stimulating private development and redevelopment in the area.
Strategies of the East Gateway MRA include:
- Public improvements such as landscaping and sidewalk furniture;
- Public-Private Partnerships and redevelopment activities to support public transit along the corridor;
- Redevelopment of underutilized and vacant parcels and activity centers;
- Beautification, such as façade improvements and iconic signage; and
- Safety improvements to reduce crime, such as cleaning up vacant properties and installing streetlights that also illuminate pedestrian areas.
