Dia del Rio events enable you to help nurture and protect the Rio Grande
Join city efforts to clean and protect the bosque
October 10, 2024
Join the ABQ BioPark and the City of Albuquerque Open Space Division for a morning of restoration projects in the bosque and at Tingley Beach. On Saturday, October 19, starting at 8am, volunteers will work on projects such as trail maintenance, revegetation and trash clean-up.
Volunteers will meet at Tingley Beach shuttle station building (map) to enjoy morning snacks before heading out to work on the various projects. Volunteers and guests at Tingley Beach will also have the opportunity to learn about local wildlife through hands-on discovery stations. Afterwards we’ll reconvene and raffle off prizes donated by local businesses.
"Being a major urban area, Albuquerque is so fortunate to also have such an amazing natural space with the Rio Grande river and bosque running right though town," said Matthew Peterson, ABQ BioPark associate director. "Dia del Rio gives us all an opportunity to protect our river by volunteering some time to ensure the wellbeing of the plants and wildlife in our city."
This is a rain or shine event. Please bring sturdy footwear, work gloves, water, sunglasses and sunscreen. A hat is also recommended. Parking is limited, so please carpool if you can. Participants need to register before the event at the One ABQ Volunteers website. Volunteers will be eligible to win raffle prizes donated by local businesses.
If you would like to participate as a group, or would like assistance signing up, please contact Jim Sattler, [email protected].
