ABQ BioPark Excited to Welcome New Siamang Family
May 13, 2022 - On Wednesday, May 11, the ABQ BioPark Zoo welcomed a new family group of siamangs!
14-year-old male Wayan, 11-year-old Eve and 20-month-old Rahsia came from the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado.
The three are now on exhibit after a brief acclimation period.
"We're excited to introduce the public to our newest faces on the ape walk," said Lynn Tupa, ABQ BioPark Zoo manager. "When guests see the group for the first time, they'll likely notice that Eve is a special siamang."
When Eve was 7, she underwent a live-saving surgery that required the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo vets to amputate one of her legs. This was due to a blood clot in her leg that was impeding blood flow. But Eve was resilient and able to successfully raise her daughter Rahsia, even without her leg.
"She has shown amazing resilience and we're happy to have her and the rest of her family with us," Tupa said.
