Senior Affairs Department, Local 412 Team Up to Warm Homes and Hearts
ALBUQUERQUE – Today, the Department of Senior Affairs and the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union 412 teamed up once again for the 32nd annual Project HEAT’S ON, which provides heating system checks and startups for low-income older adults.
The initiative, held on Saturday, October 12, 2024, helps ensure the older adult community stays warm and safe as the winter season approaches. Over 50 volunteers from Local 412 donated their time and expertise to turn on the heat for dozens of Albuquerque families, as well as test and install smoke detectors, perform carbon monoxide safety checks, and winterize A/C units.
“One of the best things about Albuquerque is how ready everyone is to lend a hand, and HEAT’S ON is yet another perfect example of that,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “Making sure that our older adults are taken care of during the colder months is a top priority, and the hard work of Local 412 helps make it all possible.”
Every year, the Department of Senior Affairs works with Local 412 to identify older adults in need, many of whom rely on fixed incomes or may have limited mobility. Over the past three decades, the program has served thousands of families across Albuquerque.
“HEAT’S ON is all about supporting our older adults and ensuring they can remain comfortable and independent in their homes,” said Anna Sanchez, Director of Senior Affairs. “We truly appreciate Local 412 for their continued partnership, which allows us to provide this crucial service to those who need it most.”
