Redevelopment of Route 66-Era Motel Nearing Completion
Today, a hard hat tour of The Imperial showcased the redevelopment efforts of Palindrome Communities LLC as the project nears completion.
Originally named the Imperial 400, this historic Route 66-era building has been preserved, restored, and enhanced with the addition of two newly-constructed buildings. Throughout the renovated property, The Imperial now hosts 52 guest rooms, 16 residential suites, and approximately 4,410 rentable square feet of commercial space.
Palindrome Communities LLC preserved and restored the original pool, as well as an iconic butterfly sun flap roof over the front lobby that was designed by the original architectural firm, Palmer and Krisel, in 1959.
“We are excited for The Imperial to become the newest destination for travelers and fun-seekers from near and far, joining the many other great businesses enlivening the EDo neighborhood,” said Chad Rennaker, President of Palindrome Communities LLC.
To support the project, the Metropolitan Redevelopment Agency (MRA) leveraged $700,000 in gap financing, making the project financially feasible.
“Our department continues to make strategic investments in the redevelopment and revitalization of Central Avenue,” said MRA Director Terry Brunner. “We are eager to see the impact this new development makes on EDo as public-private partnerships like this one are crucial to the transformation of Albuquerque’s Central corridor.”
Completion of The Imperial is expected in fall of 2023.
