Fleet Maintenance
AFR’s new fleet maintenance facility sits on 2.5 acres and has six drive-through maintenance bays that will provide space for up to 12 apparatus at a time. This 15,000 square foot building is a significant improvement over the old fleet facility, which had only two functional bays. This new facility was outfitted with state-of-the-art lifts that can accommodate the wide variety of rescues, fire engines, ladder trucks, and other emergency vehicles AFR has in their fleet. The new facility, located at 7601B Los Volcanes NW, is strategically situated near AFR’s Training Academy and the Fire Administration Headquarters on the west side of Albuquerque. The proximity of the new fleet facility to the Training Academy assists in minimizing the time fire apparatus are out-of-service for scheduled maintenance and repairs. Several times throughout the year, firefighters are required to complete training at the Fire Academy. Now, firefighters will drop off apparatus on the way to the Academy and pick it up at the end of the day. Mechanics complete the routine repairs while the firefighters complete their scheduled training.
