'2 + 2' Art Exhibition

Enjoy a showcase of diverse works from four area artists.

Colorado Artists

From Southern Colorado comes the works of artists David McKean and Ann Sullivan-McKean.

David McKean

David McKean, who has been painting for over 40 years, has exhibited his work throughout Southern Colorado and in Hays, Kansas, where he received his Master of Fine Arts from Fort Hays State University.

In addition to his paintings, he has worked as a carpenter, a cabinet maker, and co-owned and operated Renaissance Bronze Ltd. in Pueblo, Colorado. He presently teaches at Pueblo Community College. His paintings reflect Modernist affinities, Surrealist dreamscape, Fauve color and Abstract Expressionist ferver.

Ann Sullivan-McKean

Ann Sullivan-McKean is the Art Department Chair at Pikes Peak Community College in Colorado Springs.

Her works have been exhibited in solo and invitational shows as well as national and juried exhibitions. She holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from Fort Hays State University and has been teaching at the college level for over a decade.

Sullivan-McKean approaches her work in a surrealistic manner that evokes feelings of psychological drama and tension. She shares a home and MacSullivan Studio in Florence, Colorado with her husband, David.

New Mexico Artists

The "+ 2" artists from Albuquerque are Emily Trovillion and Wesley Pulkka.

Emily Trovillion

Trovillion's work has been shown throughout the US and in China, Korea and Japan.

She received a Master of Fine Arts degree from Southern Illinois University. Trovillion was named an "Albuquerque Treasure for 2011" by the Albuquerque Art Business Association. Her work can also be seen at the Pop Gallery in Santa Fe and The Stranger Factory, Weyrich Gallery and Park Fine Art here in Albuquerque.

Her work is figurative and narrative. Since 2005 she has been painting "Futuramas" featuring her vision of how the world will look if we continue to frack, drill,dig and blow up our Earth in a world that creates major issues for humankind.

Wesley Pulkka

Wesley Pulkka earned his Bachelor and Master of Fine Arts degrees at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore where he was awarded the Gold Medal for Excellence and a two-year Rhinehart Fellowship in sculpture.

His work has been shown at prestigious museums and galleries throughout the U.S. and he has taught and lectured at a number of colleges and universities. His current works find inspiration in his life-long interest in machinery, spiritual archetypes mythology, carpentry, nature-based magic, poetry, travel, history, music, and the mayhem of American's self-consumptive greed-based culture.
