2024 Neighborhood Open Space: Community Concerts
Join us for a totally free all ages, family-friendly evening event highlighting great musical artists and performers. Bring a chair or blanket, picnic dinner, and enjoy free entertainment, paletas, face painting, bosque traveling exhibit truck, rock climbing wall, hands-on nature activity, and incredible views of your public lands under the light of the setting sun.

2024 City Nature Challenge: Community Science in Your Neighborhood and Beyond
City Nature Challenge (CNC) is an international effort to find and document plants and wildlife in cities around the world. CNC Albuquerque focuses on the Middle Rio Grande Valley and includes observations made in Sandoval, Bernalillo, and Valencia counties. April 26 - April 29, 2024 Public Events with Open Space Division
April 26 – PNM Piedras Marcadas Canyon: Guided Hike, 6:00pm to 7:30pm
You’re invited to participate in a guided hike with educators from Open Space Division and Petroglyph National Monument to explore our local plants and animals on the Piedras Marcadas Canyon Trail. Enjoy a beautiful sunset surrounded by all the West Mesa ecosystem has to offer.
April 27 – Piedra Lisa Open Space: Guided Hike, 10:00am to 12:00pm
You’re invited to participate in a guided hike with educators from Open Space Division to explore our local plants and animals at Piedra Lisa. Enjoy amazing views of the Sandia Mountains while volunteering in this combination event with the Spring Clean-up, a public Open Space community service event. While we hike the pinion-juniper habitat of this native landscape treasure we will simultaneously remove trash and other objects that put it in danger.
April 28 – Candelaria Nature Preserve: Guided Hike, 1:00pm to 3:00pm
You’re invited to participate in a guided hike with educators from Open Space Division to explore our local plants and animals at Candelaria Nature Preserve. This event is an ADA and stroller friendly area for all to enjoy the restoration efforts of our Rio Grande riparian ecosystem.
April 29 – Pueblo Montano Open Space: Guided Hike, 8:00am to 10:00am
You’re invited to participate in a guided walk with educators from Open Space Division to explore our local plants and animals in the Rio Grande Bosque at Pueblo Montano Trailhead. Enjoy the early morning bird songs and abundant vegetation as we explore under the cottonwood canopy.
Program is free, no registration required. Meet at the parking lot trail head at the "City Nature Challenge Albuquerque Event Meets Here" sign. Program takes places rain or shine. Dress in layers appropriate for a short hike on a sandy trail. Wear closed-toed shoes and bring your smartphone with the free iNaturalist app or SEEK app installed on your phone. (Available on both Google Play and the App Store.) We will also have mini-tablets available to use for the event if you do not have a smart phone.
