ABQ the PLAN

Mayor Richard J. Berry’s plan for the future of Albuquerque.

What is ABQ the Plan?

ABQ the Plan is about large public projects that will shape the future of our community, without increasing taxes.

ABQ the Plan:

  • Builds on existing city assets and plans
  • Leverages public / private partnerships
  • Takes a regional approach
  • Invests in our future and honor our past

A Brief History

In 2010, Mayor Berry visited several cities (Oklahoma City, Indianapolis, Denver, and Chicago) to learn their best practices.

In 2011, the Mayor presented ABQ the Plan concepts at over 100 events to over 3,000 people, including community groups, business organizations, government functions, town halls and summer festivals.  ABQ the Plan is on the City’s website, Facebook and Twitter.

In June of 2011, the Plan Implementation Committee was formed to evaluate the projects and make recommendations.  It consisted of nine representatives from the City Council and four representatives recommended by the mayor.

Project Updates

In 2012, projects moving forward include a 'facelift' to the Albuquerque Convention Center, improvements to the Paseo del Norte / I-25 Interchange, planning for Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), a 50-mile bike loop, river improvements, and developing a vision for the future of Route 66.
