Have a bright holiday celebration at the Botanic Garden.
November 22, 2013
Get ready for the return of River of Lights, New Mexico's biggest walk-through holiday display. Enjoy millions of twinkling lights, live music, food, drinks and unique holiday gifts at this annual fundraiser hosted by the New Mexico BioPark Society. River of Lights will open each evening starting at 6 p.m. from Nov. 30 through Jan. 5 (closed Dec. 24, 25, 31 and Jan. 1). Tickets are on sale now online or from any BioPark cashier.
Festive sculptures will blanket the Botanic Garden with wondrous scenery, animated figures and towering displays. New sculptures this year include a unicorn (near the Pegasus), Stegosaurus (near the T-rex), zebra (near the roaring lion and ready-to-charge rhino) and a synchronized laser light show in the Fantasy Garden's giant pumpkin. The show will also feature holiday music from local performers including choirs, bands and school ensembles (performances end Dec. 23).
"River of Lights has become a holiday tradition for so many families in New Mexico," said Maryann Torrez, BioPark Operations and Events Manager. "It's exciting to see families search for their favorite displays, discover new sculptures, listen to the music groups play and take in all the activities we have to offer. They love it."
Watch for the special luminaria train at the Garden Railroad, Wednesdays-Sundays. Get creative during Holiday Nature Crafts on Dec. 4, 11 and 18. Have Supper with Santa or enjoy holiday dining in the Shark Reef Café. Then check out the Polar Bear Express for a train ride including cocoa, a cookie, music, stories and a present from Santa and his elves (advance tickets required).
