Medical Release-Waiver
A Medical Release-Waiver Form is requred for your child to attend swim lessons.
Swimming Lessons at Los Altos Pool
Classes are arranged by age:
- Parent Tot: 6 months - 3 years
- Preschool: 3 - 5 years
- Child: 6 - older
Child classes are organized by "waves," or skill levels.
- Find your child's wave level at the bottom of this page.
Private Lessons
We do not offer private swim lessons at any of our pools.
Fall & Spring Lessons at West Mesa and Sandia Pool
Fall and Spring Swim lessons are offered at West Mesa Aquatic Center and Sandia Pool. Classes are divided by age and skill level. The West Mesa Aquatic Center will be offering Parent Tot, Preschool, wave 1 – 6, and Triathlon classes. Sandia Pool will be offering Preschool, waves 1 - 6, Diving, and Adult (only in March class). Be sure to enroll your child in the appropriate class.
Registration for fall & spring swimming lessons will be held at their respective pools. Registration for fall lessons will open Monday, July 25th at West Mesa. Registration for fall lessons will open Monday, August 1st at Sandia. Registration for Spring lessons will open Monday, December 5th 2011 at both West Mesa and Sandia.
Lessons are $25 per child.

2012 Summer Swim Lessons
Registration begins at our annual mass registration day, April 28, 2012 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. at all year-round pools. After April 28, you can continue to register at any of the 5 indoor swimming pools during their normal operating hours until May 26, 2012. Each indoor site registers specific outdoor sites. Please see below for specific pool registration sites. When outdoor pools open on May 26, 2012 registration will then continue at the pool where you want to take your swim lesson.
Lessons are $25 per child per 2 week session.

Child Lesson Waves
Children over the age of 5 are divided into waves based on skill level. When your child masters the skills listed below, he or she will earn a certificate and move to the next wave.
Wave 1 - Beginner
Students learn basic water skills, floating, submerging, breath holding, and safety skills and rules.
Wave 2 - Beginner
Students learn front crawl stroke (freestyle), how to use a kickboard, jumping in, and safety skills and rules.
Wave 3 - Intermediate Beginner
Students review and improve on front crawl, learn to swim on back, introduced to deeper water, and safety skills and rules.
Wave 4 - Advanced Beginner
Students learn elementary backstroke and review front crawl skills, large emphasis on safety, how to dive, and by the end of the class they should be able to swim 25 yards of front crawl and elementary backstroke.
Wave 5 - Intermediate
Students review strokes, learn elementary back crawl, breast stroke, and underwater swimming.
Wave 6 - Intermediate
Students learn side stroke, starts and turns, distance swimming, and butterfly stroke.
Wave 7 - Metro Aquatic League (ages 5-14)
Learn and master the basic skills of competitive swimming. Students will participate in organized swim meets and a City Championships at the end of the summer.
Junior Lifeguard Course
This program is directed toward youths between the ages of 11-15 years old. Candidates will be given the opportunity to develop Teamwork and leadership, increase swimming skills, perform rescue techniques, and understand responsibilities of aquatic personnel and first responders.
